Le Sacre du printemps, sur leurs enregistrements, est tir\u00e9 de la partition de Slonimsky. Entre autres talents, il pouvait jouer un nocturne de Chopin en faisant rouler un agrume de haut en bas sur les touches noires.<\/p>\r\n<p>Le vieux Nick \u2212 il est mort en 1995 \u00e0 l&#8217;\u00e2ge de 101 ans &#8211; \u00e9tait un cas unique, une source in\u00e9puisable d&#8217;amusement. Ses amis (j&#8217;en faisais partie) trouvent touchant qu&#8217;Adams ait choisi de nommer un morceau en sa m\u00e9moire.<\/p>\r\n<p>Quelle est l&#8217;originalit\u00e9 de l&#8217;\u0153uvre ? En s\u2019\u00e9loignant du minimalisme, Adams s&#8217;appuie assez largement sur Stravinski. Le Sacre et Le Chant du rossignol injectent du mordant dans cette partition, mais peu importe : ladite partition s&#8217;agite et roule comme de la musique nouvelle et Paavo J\u00e4rvi et la Tonhalle de Zurich la jouent avec un enthousiasme contagieux.<\/p>\r\n<p>L&#8217;autre gros morceau de cet album assez court est \u00e9galement un hommage : My Father Knew Charles Ives. Adams l&#8217;a d\u00e9crit comme \u00ab une madeleine proustienne au go\u00fbt yankee \u00bb. Psychanalytique est le mot qu&#8217;il cherchait. Cette pi\u00e8ce hypnotique est la recherche par un Am\u00e9ricain WASP de liens avec les fondateurs culturels de la nation. Si Adams rencontrait Ives, les deux se sentiraient imm\u00e9diatement en affinit\u00e9. Et les fanfares de la Nouvelle-Angleterre qu&#8217;il cite sont ind\u00e9niablement authentiques, m\u00eame dans une version suisse.
