On pourrait en dire autant de la plupart de ses contemporains. Un album inattendu de concertos pour piano du milieu du si\u00e8cle dernier offre un cocktail de crevettes compos\u00e9 d&#8217;une musique exceptionnellement comp\u00e9tente, mais sans grand int\u00e9r\u00eat intellectuel.<\/p>&#13;\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-1007717 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/myscena.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/piano-concerto.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"246\" height=\"251\" \/>Le compositeur de cin\u00e9ma John Addison a \u00e9crit une joyeuse <em>Wellington Suite<\/em> pour son ancienne \u00e9cole publique. Le <em>Concertino<\/em> d&#8217;Arthur Benjamin est une <em>Rhapsody in Blue<\/em> britannique \u2212 et plut\u00f4t bonne, tout comme celle d&#8217;Elizabeth Maconchy, dans le style d\u2019un Hindemith ou d\u2019un Martin\u016f. Le <em>Concertante<\/em> de Humphrey Searle est une le\u00e7on de quatre minutes sur l&#8217;apprentissage du s\u00e9rialisme, et le <em>Nature Song<\/em> d&#8217;Edmund Rubbra fait plus ou moins ce qui est \u00e9crit sur l&#8217;emballage. L\u2019hommage \u00e0 Thomas Arne, du XVIIIe si\u00e8cle, par le militant antinucl\u00e9aire Geoffrey Bush, se d\u00e9marque du lot comme un d\u00e9lice captivant. Aucun de vos amis ne reconna\u00eetra le si\u00e8cle auquel il a \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9crit. Ethel Smyth, qui conna\u00eet un renouveau plus cons\u00e9quent, fait bonne figure avec sa premi\u00e8re suite pour cordes peu connue, une divagation straussienne dans les bois d\u2019Hansel-et-Gretel. Constance Warren (1905-1984) a enseign\u00e9 la musique \u00e0 Birmingham et a compos\u00e9 <em>Heather Hill<\/em> pour orchestre puissant, avec des \u00e9chos de <em>The Lark Ascending<\/em>. Je suis moins enthousiaste face au <em>Cringlemere Garden<\/em> de Ruth Gipps, une vachette qui n&#8217;est pas encore pr\u00eate pour la traite.<\/p>\n<p>La compositrice qui attire le plus mon attention est Susan Spain-Dunk (1880-1962), une compositrice de la c\u00f4te sud qui tenait plus d\u2019Elgar que de Britten et qui a essuy\u00e9 de brusques refus de la BBC. Sa <em>Suite for Strings<\/em> et une complainte plus tardive ont la profondeur et le caract\u00e8re de sentiments qui caract\u00e9risent une compositrice aux dons authentiques. Douglas Bostock a d\u00e9poussi\u00e9r\u00e9 ces tr\u00e9sors avec son orchestre de chambre de Pforzheim. Si le soleil brille \u00e0 P\u00e2ques, jouez-les avant midi.
