Ses interpr\u00e9tations d\u2019airs de Donizetti et de Bellini ont \u00e9t\u00e9 lou\u00e9es par la critique et sa diction en fran\u00e7ais fait figure de mod\u00e8le, y compris pour les francophones. Michael Spyres a d\u2019autres cordes \u00e0 son arc. Chez Erato, il vient de faire para\u00eetre un album intitul\u00e9 <i>Baritenor <\/i>o\u00f9 il explore son registre de t\u00e9nor habituel, mais aussi et surtout son registre naturel de baryton. Un alliage rare qui n\u2019est pas \u00e0 la port\u00e9e de n\u2019importe quel chanteur. \u00c0 l\u2019arriv\u00e9e, on reste toutefois dubitatif quant \u00e0 la d\u00e9marche artistique.<\/p>\n<p>Malgr\u00e9 sa rondeur dans le grave, la voix de baryton de ce t\u00e9nor de 43 ans nous para\u00eet artificiellement sombre alors que dans la c\u00e9l\u00e8bre cabaletta <i>Pour mon \u00e2me, quel destin<\/i> de Donizetti et tant d\u2019autres airs de t\u00e9nor, il nous fait la d\u00e9monstration inverse. Son \u00e9tendue vocale semble n\u2019avoir soudainement aucune limite. \u00c0 quoi bon changer de tessiture lorsque celle-ci est sup\u00e9rieure dans tous les sens du terme\u00a0? Que l\u2019on aime ou pas, l\u2019album m\u00e9rite quand m\u00eame le d\u00e9tour.
