Jeffery Straker takes the Hugh’s Room stage performing his latest album “Great Big Sky”, chronicling life lived under the spell of a wonderfully endless prairie panorama. Drawing from a breadth of sepia-tinged inspiration he sings of the hills where he was raised in Saskatchewan, the sky, memories of childhood bets settled by games of Rock, Paper, Scissors as well as an urging to leave the world better than we found it. These songs like many on his past albums have “the power to transport listeners”. “In the past 5 years I’ve watched both of my parents pass away and I’ve also found love in my partner of 4 years, Michael. Throughout this I’ve become so cognizant of the preciousness of time”. With an overall buoyant and uplifting tone Great Big Sky is about being lost and then being found again, it’s a whisper painted on a giant canvas and it’s gratitude for not knowing all the answers but being able to ask all the questions.
