The Friends of the Canadian War Museum invites you to a commemoration.

The evening will appeal to an audience of music lovers and history enthusiasts alike. Vimy – A Commemoration in Words and Music will be hosted by celebrated CBC personality Lucy Van Oldenbarneveld, and internationally renowned Canadian historian, Margaret MacMillan will set the scene of the Vimy battle. The main focus of the evening will be Canadian composer Andrew Ager’s The Unknown Soldier. This original oratory, performed by a combined choir with baritone soloist, Gary Dahl, and orchestra, under the direction of Andrew Ager, is an enlightened musical masterpiece. The commemoration will last 1 hour and 10 minutes and will include readings from letters written by soldiers of the Great War.

Come early to enjoy OrKidstra performing in the Lobby of the Museum!

A reception with light refreshments will follow the performance at approximately 8:15 p.m.

Guests will be able to visit the Museum’s exhibitions, including the new special exhibition Vimy – Beyond the Battle and Canadian Experience Gallery 2 – The South African and First World Wars, including new and updated Vimy materials.

 

Les Amis du Musée canadien de la guerre vous invitent à une commémoration.

Cette soirée plaira autant aux mélomanes qu’aux amateurs d’histoire. L’animation de Vimy – Une commémoration en mots et en musique est confiée à Lucy Van Oldenbarneveld, une personnalité appréciée de CBC/SRC, ainsi qu’à Margaret MacMillan, une historienne canadienne de renommée internationale, qui situera le contexte de la bataille de Vimy. L’œuvre du compositeur canadien Andrew Ager, Le Soldat inconnu, sera au cœur de la soirée. Cet oratorio original, interprété par le baryton soliste Gary Dahl, avec l’accompagnement d’un chœur et d’un orchestre dirigé par Andrew Ager, est un chef-d’œuvre musical émouvant. La prestation, d’une heure et dix minutes, sera ponctuée par la lecture de lettres écrites par des soldats lors de la Grande Guerre.

Arrivez tôt et profitez de la musique jouée par des jeunes du OrKidstra, dans le foyer du Musée.
Une réception suivra, vers 20 h 15, où de légers rafraîchissements seront servis.

Les invités auront la possibilité de visiter les expositions du Musée, notamment la nouvelle exposition spéciale Vimy – Au-delà de la bataille ainsi que le renouvellement de la section portant sur Vimy dans la galerie 2, intitulée La guerre sud-africaine et la Première Guerre mondiale.
