There’s a majesty and mystery about the tales that the tortured poet Hoffmann recounts about his three great loves. But under the spotlight surrounded by all the gaiety of the chorus and from his wine-fuelled memory, how much fantasy has been injected into the tales of this master weaver of stories?

We will be setting the tales in the late 19th century, in the time the opera was written. This new production explores the fantastical versus truth, a Dionysian journey where poetry and art might be a means of healing.
