Sounding Female Voices showcases compositions for violin and piano in the post-Beethoven generations by exclusively female composers of diverse ethnicities and backgrounds. Musicologist Hedy Law and violinist David Gillham will discuss aspects of composer Amy Beach’s life, compositional and technical features in her Sonata Op. 34. Their conversation will also explore important theoretical themes such as music and the body, relationality, and gender expressions developed in recent feminist theories.
