The unusual colours of Debussy’s late Sonata for Flute, Viola and Harp contrast with an early Beethoven quartet in his most characteristic key of C minor. After intermission, one of the greatest and loveliest chamber music experiences of all – Schubert’s B-flat Major Trio. “One glance at Schubert’s Trio”, wrote Robert Schumann, “and the troubles of our human existence disappear.”
