In the Foosteps of Chopin (A virtual discussion)

0

As part of the Summer Solstice Series created and hosted by pianist Daniel Vnukowski, the distinguished musicologist and author Dr. Alan Walker will be the featured guest in a virtual discussion entitled In the Footsteps of Chopin,

Dr. Walker and Mr. Vnukowski will cover such topics as esthetics, the Polish vernacular, and interpretation as the tail-end of the composing process, and the discussion will be interspersed with recorded excerpts by such renowned Chopin interpreters as Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli and Artur Rubinstein.

“I’ll be playing the role of a somewhat obnoxious 19th-century German music critic who despises Chopin’s works,” says Mr. Vnukowski. “All in good humor, of course, and tongue-in-cheek, but I believe it’s a way to get closer to the depths of Chopin’s musical genius.”

Dr. Walker’s recent landmark book Fryderyk Chopin: A Life and Times, a large-scale biography of the composer which he worked on for ten years, has established him as a leading authority on Chopin and his time. This “biographical masterpiece” (The Sunday Times) earned praise in such publications as the New York Times, which cited the work as a Book Review Editors’ Choice; The Sunday Times (U.K.) Classical Music Book of 2018, and The Economist’s Best Books of 2018.

The free event will be followed by a live Q&A that invites participants to ask questions. RSVP for the event here.
