In just over one week, on Saturday 27 November, five courageous Calgary pianists will take the Bella Concert Hall stage to compete in the 2021 Pro-Am, hosted by Calgary personality Jonathan Love.
The Pro-Am is a friendly and fun piano competition (and fundraiser) which is open to accomplished amateur musicians who earn their living in ways other than performing music full-time. Held just six times over the past twenty years, Pro-Am has added more than $500,000 to Honens’ education and engagement programs and has grown to become a favourite and much anticipated event of both pianists and audiences alike.
These five pianists have not only built successful careers in their chosen fields, but have also continued to follow their passion for music. They have each chosen their favourite repertoire to perform in their 15 to 20-minute recitals that will be evaluated by a respected panel of experts. This year’s jury includes Denise Ball, Vincent Ho, and Patricia Price. The jurors will choose the 2021 Pro-Am Champion, but all the competitors receive a prize package including a professional video recording and a lesson with Honens Artistic Director Jon Kimura Parker.
