Projet canadien maintenant devenu légendaire, cette nouvelle édition de Génération permettra à quatre jeunes compositeurs d’explorer la matière sonore avec les musiciens de l’ECM+ et Véronique Lacroix. Mini-Concerts et ateliers publics de composition animés par Gabriel Dharmoo révèleront aux mélomanes le processus d’écriture musicale qui se cache derrière le travail de Bekah Simms* (T.-N.-L. / Ont.), Gabriel Dufour-Laperrière (Qc), Stefan Maier (C.-B.) et Matthew Ricketts** (C.-B. / NY), tous triés sur le volet par le biais d’un Grand Jury national à l’été 2019.

A Canadian project now become a legend, the latest edition of Generation will give four young composers the opportunity to explore sound with the musicians of the ECM+ and Véronique Lacroix. Mini-Concerts and public composition workshops led by Gabriel Dharmoo will give music lovers a glimpse into the musical writing process behind the work of Bekah Simms* (N.L./Ont.), Gabriel Dufour-Laperrière (Que.), Stefan Maier (B.C.) and Matthew Ricketts** (B.C./NY), each of which were selected by a prestigious national jury in the summer of 2019.

About Author

More than an ensemble, ECM+ produces innovative, multidisciplinary concerts and showcases Canadian musical creation throughout the country. Renowned for her flair and her appetite for risk-taking, artistic director Véronique Lacroix is passionate about creation and, with her musicians, is helping to foster the next generation of composers. Since it was founded in 1987, ECM+ has premiered 246 mostly Canadian works. Its productions have garnered prestigious awards, including the 2002 Grand Prix du Conseil des arts de Montréal, the 2002 Prix Opus for Musical Event of the Year, and the 2007 Prix Opus for Artistic Direction of the Year. In addition to its regular season’s productions, ECM+ has toured Canada with the Generation project every two years since 2000. Moreover, the ensemble has participated in international exchanges with France, Belgium, Mexico, Ukraine, and Singapore. ECM+ has performed at 21C Music Festival of Toronto, Festival Internacional Cervantino, Montreal/New Music Festival, Ottawa International Chamber Music Festival, Montreal Chamber Music Festival, Québec’s Musiques au present festival, Toronto’s Massey Hall New Music Festival, and Festival International de Musique Actuelle de Victoriaville. The ensemble has released ten CDs, and its concerts were regularly broadcast on Radio-Canada’s ICI Musique and CBC Radio Two. ECM+ is in residence at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal since 1998.
