Two names, two artists considered paradigms of French Romanticism are paired together in this unique music-poetry recital based on the melodies of composer Camille Saint-Saëns and the poems of Victor Hugo. A Classica Festival world premiere! Soprano Karina Gauvin lends her sumptuous voice to the shapely melodic contours of the Parisian master’s melodies inspired by the poetry of one of the greatest writers of the French language. Joining this poetic journey will be actor Jean Marchand, reciting some of Hugo’s most beautiful verses. Performing on an 1854 Érard piano tuned to 435 Hz, Olivier Godin plays with elegant phrasing and stylistic perfection.
