The Barber of Seville, Rossini’s delightfully chaotic and infectiously catchy comedy, returns to the COC in a lively and exceptionally animated production from acclaimed Spanish theatre troupe Els Comediants.
The opera follows Figaro, the title barber, as he works out a plan to help his former employer Count Almaviva win the hand of sweet orphaned Rosina. One small problem though: she’s the reluctant, soon-to-be wife of her guardian Doctor Bartolo. Filled with razorsharp jokes and memorable music, this audience favourite is great for families.
Fast-rising mezzo-soprano and COC Ensemble Studio graduate Emily D’Angelo returns to Toronto as Rosina, opposite Italian baritone Vito Priante who makes his COC debut as the wily Figaro.
