Difficult to resist the flood of images and the felted waves of Essences des bois, Yves Léveillé‘s album released in 2014. To once again evoke the nuanced atmosphere of this project, the pianist recently rearranged pieces of his repertoire and signed some new compositions to transport us in a play of luminous balance between the colors of the instruments of the woodwind family and the energetic flexibility of the rhythm section.

Three accomplished instrumentalists who alternate between flutes, clarinet / alto clarinet, the different saxophones and a double bass player, a drummer, a high caliber pianist. Six eloquent musicians who transport us to a multicolored universe. Léveillé, in search of the dreamed phrasing, sometimes complex, sometimes lyrical, works stubbornly in a search for jazzistic beauty. The musical clarity, a sign of the composer’s maturity, but also the grace of the timbre and the purity of the playing bring a quivering note of dreaminess to the whole. Preventing neither virtuosity nor intelligence, a meeting of six exceptional musicians which moves everything in depth.
