Quebec Health and Social Services Minister Christian Dubé has announced that halls with assigned seating can once again accept capacity crowds as of October 8.

There are no changes with respect to wearing a mask and producing a vaccination passport, which remain compulsory. The relaxed rules concern performance halls, public gatherings and sporting and cultural events.

Amateur orchestras and choirs

The announcement states also that “for amateur orchestras and choirs, the allowable number of participating musicians and singers will be increased to 100. Special rules apply regarding distancing or wearing a mask for singers or certain musicians.”

OSM reaction

“The Orchestre symphonique de Montréal is delighted by the flexibilities announced today by the Government of Quebec,” said Madeleine Careau, chief executive officer of the OSM. “We couldn’t be more pleased to introduce our new music director, Rafael Payare, to an even larger audience. Make it a date at the Maison symphonique, the 10th anniversary of which we are celebrating this year.”
