A first in montreal: exibit of international jewellery house Édéenne at the Wilder building of the Grands Ballets Canadiens

November 2nd – November 16th, 2017

MONTRÉAL, October 25th, 2017 — Internationally renowned jeweler, Edéenne, a Montréal native now based in Paris, will present stunning pieces in a captivating scenography, by revealing their secrets and the unique artistic approach that inspired each of them. Presented by BMO, in a replica of its oldest vault, the free exhibition will take place from November 2 to 16 at the Wilder Building of the Grands Ballets Canadiens.

This is the first exhibition hosted and sponsored by Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montréal in their new space. Édéenne will take this opportunity to launch her first art book that follows the journeys behind her unique creations.

As the only Canadian in the world to make high jewellery, Édéenne has been recognized by the former Jewellery Director of Christies in Geneva as one of the 4 women who have marked the history of high-end jewellery since 1900, keeping in mind that it is essentially an industry led by men. Vivienne Becker published in the Financial Times: “Édéenne is one of the 4 gems stars”. She has also been named the “Nouvelle légende” of Place Vendôme, a landmark of Parisian refinement and exclusivity.

The world-renowned artist creates unique portrait-pieces based on the life stories of those who confide in her. “That’s why,” she tells us, “the exhibition will be revealed in a vault in order to translate jewellery’s most precious gem: emotion. I believe in the power of jewellery to convey the profoundness of its owner and I can’t wait for the people of my hometown to discover my work, which, I hope, will inspire and move them.”

Édéenne’s Montreal exhibition, presented by BMO, will feature 160 pieces, more than half of which are on loan, for the occasion from her clients from around the world. Carrying a flashlight and accompanied by a storyteller in a pitch-black room, each visitor will discover the story behind each piece and will partake in an experience far beyond the presentation of the object itself.

“As we celebrate BMO’s 200th anniversary this year, our partnership with Édéenne reflects the values that drive us as an organization, and the ones that drive her as an artist: being in tune with the customer, recognizing the uniqueness of each person and believing in the strength of good ideas,” said Claude Gagnon, General Manager, BMO Financial Group, Quebec.

Media are invited to attend a preview event in the BMO vault, located at 119 Saint-Jacques Street West in Montreal on Tuesday, October 24 at 10 a.m.
