This concert features the trombone in all its musical guises- Pergolesi’s Sinfonia takes us back to the time of Bach when the trombone was an important instrument in Church music, Frank Martin’s Ballade with it’s jazzy rhythms and complex harmonies, shows the “profane” side of this versatile instrument. Bernstein’s Elegy pays homage to the “Tailgate Trombone”. After this, we take detours through song, improvisation. The concert closes with two modern works for trombone ensemble with soloist which show the versatility and depth of expression that a trombone is capable of.
