Based in Utah, Sundance Trio was formed in 2005. Members of the trio are oboist Geralyn Giovannetti, bassoonist Christian Smith, and pianist Jed Moss. They have performed throughout the United States, Ireland and the United Kingdom at colleges, conferences and on chamber music series.
The trio actively seeks to encourage new composition and in 2007 they commissioned Canadian composer, Malcolm Forsyth. His trio, Lyric Essay, was premiered at the 2008 International Double Reed Society conference. In 2014 they commissioned Utah composer, Alyssa Morris to write her trio, Up and Away (Story of a Balloon). It was premiered in New York City at NYU as part of the IDRS Conference.
The Sundance Trio has released two CD recordings on the Centaur Records label. In a recent review, the American Record Guide wrote, “They are exceptionally talented musicians who seem to have broken through the mere performance of music into the world of thoughtful artistry and craft. This is the type of album you’ll want to play over and over”. The Salt Lake Tribune wrote, “The ensemble play is also fabulous. It’s a remarkable collaborative effort by three like-minded musicians who are equals in musicality and technical astuteness”.
