NAC Commission
This landmark NAC Commission pairs three of Canada’s outstanding choreographic talents with three of the country’s most exciting composers. Ballet BC’s trail-blazing Emily Molnar meets her musical match with innovative composer Nicole Lizée. Alberta Ballet’s eminent and prolific Jean Grand-Maître joins forces with multiple award-winning new music visionary Andrew Staniland; and Guillaume Côté, gifted dancer and choreographic associate with the National Ballet of Canada, is perfectly paired with noted emerging composer Kevin Lau.
Three remarkable new one-act ballets, each with an original orchestral score, will be performed en première by dozens of dazzling dancers together with the National Arts Centre Orchestra under the baton of music director Alexander Shelley. An unprecedented event to mark Canada’s sesquicentennial!

Cette commande historique du CNA associe trois grands chorégraphes canadiens à trois compositeurs comptant parmi les plus fascinants du pays. Emily Molnar, chorégraphe avant-gardiste du Ballet BC, trouve son alter ego en Nicole Lizée, une compositrice novatrice. Jean Grand-Maître, éminent et prolifique directeur artistique de l’Alberta Ballet, s’associe au créateur de musique nouvelle Andrew Staniland, lauréat de nombreux prix. Guillaume Côté, talentueux danseur et chorégraphe associé du Ballet national du Canada, forme un parfait tandem avec Kevin Lau, jeune compositeur remarqué.
D’excellents danseurs donneront la première de trois spectaculaires ballets en un acte sur des musiques orchestrales originales interprétées par l’Orchestre du CNA sous la baguette de son directeur musical Alexander Shelley. Un événement sans précédent soulignant le 150e anniversaire du Canada!
